Janne Kontala
Spiritual Guide & Teacher
Janne Kontala has been a dedicated student of yoga since the late 1980s and has shared its philosophy and practices with students around the world for more than 30 years. His path has included decades of personal practice, traditional study in yoga ashrams in India and the West, and a lifelong dedication to understanding the transformative potential of yoga and contemplative traditions.
A central aspect of Janne's practice and teaching is the integration of practices of sacred sound with the physical techniques of haṭha-yoga. Drawing from both traditional wisdom and lived experience, he is known for his ability to present profound spiritual teachings in a way that is practical, accessible, and relevant to modern life.
Alongside his personal practice and teaching, Janne holds a PhD in the study of religions from Åbo Akademi University, where he currently overseas and teaches an international academic minor program on yoga studies.
He is the author of Inner Yoga (Joogan sydän) and has written extensively on yoga philosophy and contemplative traditions, including commentaries on the Yoga Sūtras and the Bhagavad Gītā.
For more than two decades, Janne has trained yoga teachers and guided students in the study of meditation, yoga philosophy, and spiritual practice. Participants on the pilgrimage will benefit from his unique ability to combine deep knowledge, authentic practice, humility, and insight.
Throughout the journey, Janne offers teachings, reflections, and spiritual guidance inspired by the traditions that have shaped his life and practice. His presence helps participants engage more deeply with both the outer pilgrimage and the inner journey it invites.
